Honey Sugar Lip Scrub Recipe

Get soft lips with these easy DIY lip scrubs. 

1. Honey Sugar Lip Scrub

A honey sugar lip scrub exfoliates the lips by scrubbing off the dead skin and moisturizes at the same time. The brown sugar scrapes away the dead skin and reveals smooth lips while the honey moisturizes the skin.  Perfect if you have flaky skin around your lips, which is common during the winter time.  
Ingredients needed: Brown sugar and honey.  Honey and brown sugar are great as a lip scrub because of their skin benefits and natural exfoliation.

  • Antiseptic and anti inflammatory propetries for healing

Brown Sugar Skin Benefits:

Brown sugar is biodegradable and won't harm the environment.  Plus sugar will dissolve when you wash it off so it won't clog your skin.  

Brown sugar is also less processed compared to salt or white sugar. Here are some of the compounds in brown sugar that are great for our skin and lips include

  • AHA
  • Antioxidants
  • Gentler on the skin, brown sugar is softer than white sugar.

 

To Make A Honey Sugar Lip Scrub:  you would need 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and half a tablespoon `of honey.

 

  1. Start with the brown sugar, add the honey and mix.
  2. The mixture should be almost like wet sand at the shore of the beach, but not too liquidy. It should not If it is liquidy, add more brown sugar so that it is to the consistency you want.

To Use:

Combine raw sugar, and honey. Gently massage the mixture onto your lips to remove dead flaky skin. Rinse and apply the lip moisturizer of your choice, such as our lip mask recipe below.

Can I Use The Honey Sugar Scrub For Acne?

Due to the physical exfoliation, it may still be a little too strong to use directly over active acne, but it could be great for acne scars or as a general exfoliator for your face.  

If you have a lot of active acne, a gentle chemical exfoliator that doesn't contain granules or anything rough might work better for your skin. 

(Tip: If you don't have coconut oil: Olive, Almond, or Vitamin E oil work, too)

 2. Lip Moisturizing Mask Recipe

This Lip Moisturizer is a follow up to be used after a lip scrup to help keep your lips soft and hydrated after exfoliating the dead skin off. 

This lip moisturizer is meant to be used after the lip scrub for best results. Although the lip scrub has honey which moisturizes the lips, you're washing the scrub off, therefore more moisturizer is necessary for soft lips. The honey and the olive oil both moisturize the lips.
Ingredients needed: olive oil and honey.

How to make: Half a tablespoon of olive oil and half a tablespoon of honey.

Pour mixture into small amber glass container. 

Dab your finger into the mixture and apply generously.  Try to store away from extreme heat.

On the moisturizer, can sweet almond pil or coconut oil be used instead of olive oil?
