Rosehip Oil For Acne Scars & How To Use

rosehip oil

One of the best feelings is hopping out of the shower and reaching for your favorite serums that will hydrate and penetrate your freshly open pores. But oftentimes it might be hard to decide which serum you want to reach for.

Do you have Rosehip Oil in your skincare collection? If so, I would definitely recommend reaching for it and I’m going to tell you why.

What is Rosehip Oil?

Rosehip Oil - also known as rosehip seed oil - comes from extracting the oils from the small seed pods of two different types of wild roses - Rosa rubiginosa or Rosa moschata.

This multi-purpose oil is loaded with vitamins, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties & essential fatty acids.

Rosehip Oil has been widely used since ancient times due to its amazing healing properties and benefits. It is now widely used to help reduce the appearance of acne scars and marks, hyperpigmentation and increases skin elasticity.

Why It works

Rosehip Oil includes some awesome ingredients, like Vitamin A, Vitamin E & Vitamin C. These vitamins work together and serve as antioxidants, which in turn fight off free radicals. Another thing to note is that Rosehip Oil is packed full of essential fatty acids - which help with tissue and cell turnover in the skin. Due to its high composition of antioxidants, Rosehip Oil has relatively high protection against inflammation and oxidative stress.

Benefits of incorporating Rosehip Oil into your skincare routine:

  1. Moisturizing
  2. Brightens & Firms Skin
  3. Evens out skin
  4. Fades Acne Scars
  5. Reduces Inflammation and Redness

Is it good for acne?

YES. Rosehip Oil is a good ingredient to incorporate if you have acne. There is often a misconception when it comes to apply oils to acne-prone skin. Even I have been apprehensive to use oils on my skin in the past, when I was suffering from an acne breakout.

The fatty acids and antioxidants are great at soothing irritation & inflammation.

Does it work for acne scars?

The short answer to this question is: YES it does work for acne scars and leftover acne marks.

When Rosehip Oil is absorbed to the skin, the fatty acids convert into a compound that helps your skin regenerate new skin tissue, and in turn this helps with skin turnover for your acne scars.

Rosehip oil is a great source of ascorbic acid, which is a natural form of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is proven to help with reducing acne scars, hyperpigmentation and improving overall skin texture.

How to use

Rosehip Oil can be used twice a day, morning & night to keep your skin glowing and protected. It would be ideal to use it in the morning after a fresh cleanse, so your skin can absorb the antioxidants and benefit from the Oil throughout your day. It will also help protect your skin from environmental factors throughout your day when you’re out-and-about.

Rosehip Oil can be applied after cleansing. (Oh, and don’t forget your neck!)
